A Thriving Archery Community in the Heart of Florida

A New Fixture in the Alachua County Community

Around the Alachua County community, sports are an integral part of everyday living. Die-hard Florida football fans and lifelong lovers of competition are a staple of the area. However, archery is a relatively new addition to the community’s sports scene. The Easton Newberry Archery Center has become a hub for archery enthusiasts, hosting various competitions throughout the year.

The 2025 World Archery Youth Championship Trials

One of the most significant events to be held at the Easton Newberry Archery Center is the 2025 World Archery Youth Championship Trials. This annual competition is a crucial step for young archers looking to represent the United States in international competitions. The trials feature a 72-arrow qualification round, which will determine the top 8 contenders who will move on to the round robin matches later in the day. Each archer will compete against every other archer, rather than engaging in head-to-head matches.

  • The trials will feature athletes in two age classes: under-21 and under-18.
  • The under-21 division is eligible to compete in both the Youth World Championships and the Junior Pan Am Games.
  • The under-18 competitors, on the other hand, may only qualify for the Youth World Championships.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The trials will also feature an impressive lineup of experienced archers. Brady Ellison, a five-time Olympic medalist, will be competing. Ellison is currently seeking to return to the Olympic stage for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, with three silver medals and two bronze medals already in his collection.

“I’m looking forward to competing in the trials and seeing who will make the team for the 2028 Olympics.”

His teammates, Catalina Gnoriega, Casey Kaufhold, and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez, will also be competing. Gnoriega is the reigning champion in the recurve competition at the Gator Cup and will be competing against her former teammates, including Kaufhold, who won Olympic bronze in the event.

A National Team Selection Event

The Easton Newberry Archery Center will also host the 16th annual Easton Foundation’s Gator Cup. This three-day contest will feature almost 700 archers from across the nation, competing in the Team USA selection event. Four Olympians from the 2024 Paris Olympics will be participating, including Brady Ellison.
